| The development of a paper by Michael Glinski about
Spurious Hypocalcemia associated with the use of MRI contrast agents
revolved around analysis of the clinical and economic impact. The cost
impact is affected by many variables. An interactive tool was developed so
that health care professionals could rapidly and accurately examine many
scenarios that reflected various assumptions about prevalence and cost.
Each new position of the sliders represents the complete re-calculation of a
spreadsheet based on the changes to one variable.
It is a little like a mortgage calculator, but much more advanced. If you
lower interest rate and increase the term of the financing, the payment
changes. Conversely, if you decrease the payment, you can see the new length
of the loan or financed amount.
The interactive tool is shown below. Use your mouse to drag the sliders,
exploring the variables and seeing the results in real time. Notice also
that in part two, the Rate and Unit Cost are also variables that can be
adjusted for a specific situation. Also helpful is the ability to
store a record of Scenarios.
